In 1968,
Delbert Stewart and his brothers, Mark and Dick, started General Concrete,
a concrete placement company in Las Vegas, Nevada. When the three brothers
retired in 1988, Ken and Georgia Stewart, Delbert's only son and
daughter, and Kris Sundell, his son-in-law, took over the company under a
new name: Stewart & Sundell.
Delbert Stewart, known as Deb, was a farmer and teacher in Fallon, Nevada, until 1961, when he moved to Las Vegas and began working with concrete. Seven years later, he was ready to go into business placing curb and gutter. The Stewart children started working for the company at the age of twelve and grew to love concrete construction as a way of life. When Deb and his brothers decided to retire, Kenny, Kris, and Georgia saw an opportunity to take curb and gutter slipforming to another level. With Ken as president, Kris as vice president and Georgia as the treasurer, the three began Stewart & Sundell Concrete, Inc. On March 1, 1988, the doors opened for business with about 40 employees, one curb machine and two loaders. Stewart & Sundell Concrete has grown along with the Greater Las Vegas Area and today operates between 180 to 200 employees and operates four curb machines and fourteen loaders.
